  • Optical Distribution Frames (ODF) & Cabinet Splicing: In multi-dwelling units (MDUs) or neighborhood distribution hubs, incoming high-core-count feeder cables are split and terminated. Multi-core pigtails (such as 12-color fanout units) are spliced to the feeder lines and plugged into ODF adapter panels, facilitating easy cross-connection to individual residences.
  • Fiber Wall Outlets / Customer Premises Terminations: Inside the home, the drop cable enters a small wall-mounted optical outlet (often called a rosette box). A single-mode pigtail (typically 0.9mm buffered G.657.A2 bend-insensitive fiber) is spliced to the incoming drop fiber, presenting an SC/APC or LC/UPC port to the homeowner for ONT connection.

G.657.A2 fiber allows a minimum bend radius of just 7.5mm, compared to the 30mm requirement of standard fiber. This ensures that even if a homeowner pushes furniture against the wall outlet, bending the pigtail sharply, the optical signal remains unaffected, preventing service outages and support calls.
